Congratulations to Nicola Allocca for this well-deserved appointment. We are particularly pleased because we have known Nicola from the beginning of our venture with Risk & Compliance ITALIA and we published his articles about the necessity to eradicating the corruption “cancer” and possible solutions. Legality, NoCorruptionZone, Integrity, Visionary Disobedience are the objectives for which he strives for and the first keywords that come to mind that we associate with his person. This recognition confirms to his valuable and continuous engagement on different levels, not only within his company (AST), but also in the international forum at OECD and in many activities at the university and institutional level.
It is worth mentioning that corruption costs Italy 237 billion euros per year; billions that are stolen not only from companies making them less competitive, but from the whole country that has less chance to spend and finance public policies for welfare, education, infrastructure, etc.
In a word, the fight against corruption is a goal that affects all of us and Italy is at the forefront and is engaged in various global initiatives.
Here are the direct links to Nicola Allocca’s articles – only in Italian – and at the foot of the page a selection on the theme of the fight against corruption and fraud, published here on Risk & Compliance.
Bravo Nicola !! and, Come on ……..
Here is the press release of the appointment to the OECD:
Nicola Allocca, Governance Director and Business Continuity Officer at Acciai Speciali Terni (AST), has been appointed new Vice Chair of Anti-Corruption Committee established at Business@OECD. This Committee is the key body in contributing to OECD activities related to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention and equivalent instruments as well as promoting integrity and trust in business.
The decision by the Executive Board, comes as a result of the contribution Mr. Allocca, representing AST at the OECD, has provided in the debate on fighting corruption. Acciai Speciali Terni’s journey towards anti-corruption aims at building a set of standards and common values promoting a culture of integrity, transparency, and sustainability, in turn essential for the creation of a No Corruption Zone. The goal is to turn the company into an area where it is impossible to perform corruption acts, also thanks to the application of Artificial Intelligence and other innovative technologies in legality matters enabling a continuous monitoring system.
AST’s commitment in the fight against corruption received a push in 2016 when a “Legality Protocol” was signed with the local Prosecutor’s Office and with support by the Ministero degli Interni. This resulted in growing awareness that only by sharing high ethical standards, a company can build trust of its stakeholders; with this aim, AST started the so-called “Legality Days”, a series of ad-hoc events open to the local community.
Under the guide of CEO Massimiliano Burelli, since 2017 the company co-operates with Transparency International Italia as a member of the BIF – Business Integrity Forum, actively participating to working groups together with some among the most important Italian champions in this field.
Also for the third year, AST shares its experience at the IBID – Italian Business Integrity Day, a joint initiative by the Italian Foreign Ministry and Transparency, globally showcasing the most advanced models and practices in terms of integrity and anti-corruption.
Furthermore in 2019, as part of its goal AST entered the small group of 9 Italian big enterprises and first Steel-Making company in Europe to obtain the ISO 37001, Anti-bribery management systems.
