VCO winner: National Compliance Award 2022

19 April 2023

The winner of the National Compliance Award as organised annually by the Netherlands Compliance Institute was announced in Rotterdam on 13 April. The winner from the group of four nominees is the VCO, the Association of Compliance Professionals. The president of the VCO, Michelle Fisser was justifiably very proud and she received the trophy from a former winner, Geert Vermeulen, who presided over the ceremony.

Michelle Fisser emphasised in her word of thanks that the prize is not only intended for her, but for the entire board of the professional association and also the ‘leaders’ of the various knowledge tables within the VCO. What still bothers the VCO as a professional association is that it was not involved in the composition of the new Governance Code. Michelle also revealed what the further plans and challenges are for the professional association in 2023.

Jelle van Baardewijk received the incentive prize as a lecturer in business ethics and philosopher. In his speech, he mentioned, among other things, the remarkable behaviour of former Minister of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries, Cees Veerman in his capacity as a land speculator… It is remarkable that this former CDA minister obtained his doctorate in 1983 at Wageningen University on the thesis “Soil and land price”.

The official part was followed by the inspiration session on the circular economy, provided by Laura Huijgen and Miranda Bosman from PHI Factory. July 27, 2023 was explained as “Earth Overshoot Day”. On that day, according to science, the resources of the earth were used up this year… There is no improvement compared to last year, when it was even a day later.

The urgent need for a circular economy was explained with figures and facts and the session ended with a fun and useful knowledge quiz.

The ceremony on the Maasboulevard in BlueCity concluded with drinks and a buffet dinner.
