At the end of last week we received the sad news that Michel Klompmaker had passed away due to the debilitating disease ALS. Michel was the founder and driving force behind the Risk & Compliance Platform Europe. Over the past ten years, he developed the platform into a website where tens of thousands of professionals from home and abroad could find their professional information.
In addition to the platform, he also organised the Risk & Compliance Annual Congress. He attended the tenth edition of the congress on Thursday 13 June himself. A week later, on 19 June, Michel was appointed honorary member of the trade association by a large majority during the General Meeting of Members of the Association of Compliance Officers (VCO).
The VCO said about Michel’s achievements: “This honourable distinction is a recognition of his many contributions to the field of risk and compliance and his continuous commitment to knowledge sharing within the community. From the very beginning, Klompmaker has acted as a ‘connector’ between the various actors within the risk and compliance field. His extensive knowledge and keen insight are reflected in the many articles he has written on developments in the field of risk and compliance. Klompmaker’s work fits in seamlessly with the VCO’s credo: #Knowledgesharing. The appointment of Michel Klompmaker as an honorary member is therefore a recognition of his merits and symbolizes the appreciation and respect of the community.”
As the new publisher of the Risk & Compliance Platform Europe, we have come to know Michel as an extremely driven professional. He was literally involved in ‘his’ platform until the end and last week he gave us advice and tips on interesting articles and themes. He will be greatly missed by the entire risk and compliance world.
We wish Michel’s family and loved ones much strength in coping with this great loss.
