The Hague Security Delta (HSD) is the largest security cluster in Europe. In this Dutch cluster –with important regional hubs in The Hague, Twente, and Brabant– businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions work together on innovation and knowledge in the fields of cyber security, national and urban security, protection of critical infrastructure, and forensics. They share a common goal: more business activity, more jobs and a secure world.
The security cluster originated in The Hague, where the HSD Campus, the national innovation centre for security, is also situated. In this region alone 400 security businesses realise more than 25% of the national turnover in security and employ 13,400 people. Nationwide there is a turnover of 6 billion euros and 61,500 people are employed in the security domain. The regions Twente and Brabant contribute to this in particular with their innovative living labs and universities.
HSD Foundation
The Hague Security Delta Foundation was established in July 2013 to help the Dutch security cluster achieve their common goals. The Foundation’s task is to strengthen the security cluster by facilitating, organising, and initiating access to relevant information, financing, innovation programs and projects, talent, business partners, and international promotion. The HSD Foundation is directed by representatives of governmental organisations, businesses, and knowledge institutions, and is based on the HSD Campus in The Hague.
HSD Campus
On 14 February 2014 the former Minister Opstelten (Security and Justice) and Mayor Van Aartsen (municipality of The Hague) officially opened the HSD Campus. The Campus provides living labs, education and training facilities, flexible office space and meeting rooms. And is the place where businesses, governments and knowledge institutions from across the country collaborate to harvest knowledge, and develop products and services that contribute to a safer and more secure world. The HSD Campus is the inspiring meeting place for entrepreneurs, students and professionals in the security cluster.
During the opening of the HSD Campus, HSD, TS&S, and DITSS signed a convenant on further cooperation between these innovation regions. The agreement ensures better cooperation and improved coordination between the three regions and will lead to both social and economic returns.
